UPDATE | 03.04.25
10:58 AM — The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that a woman has been cited after colliding with an FMPD vehicle in front of the Carrel Plaza on Fowler Street just before Carrell Road in Fort Myers.
Troopers say the 51-year-old Lehigh Acres woman was exiting the plaza when she proceeded into the northbound lanes of Fowler St., directly in front of an approaching FMPD vehicle.
She caused minor injuries to herself and the 40-year-old male officer that was driving the patrol car.
FMPD says the officer is doing okay since the crash.
The woman, who was at-fault for the crash, has since been cited for FSS 316.123(2)(a) – Violation of Right of Way From a Stop Sign, since she violated the law.
The officer involved did not violate the law or any department policies and speed was not a factor in the crash.

Lee County, FL — Two people have been injured, including a Fort Myers Police officer, after a crash on Fowler Street just south of Carrell Road in Fort Myers.
Fort Myers Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the incident at 9:19 PM Saturday night.
Over a dozen witnesses stated that the officer appeared to be speeding northbound on Fowler St before colliding with a black hatchback that was reportedly turning into the Carrel Corner shopping plaza.
The force of the crash caused the hatchback to go airborne, according to witnesses, and landed over 100 feet from the point of impact into the plaza's parking lot.
An occupant from the hatchback was trapped inside and it took firefighters over 20 minutes to extricate them from the vehicle.
The trapped victim and the officer driving the police vehicle were both transported to an area hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
It is unknown if the FMPD officer was driving with their lights and sirens activated prior to the collision.
The outside northbound lane of Fowler St is blocked before Carrell Rd.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
