One dead after truck strikes golf cart on Winkler Rd in Fort Myers

2:42 PM — The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that a 44-year-old Fort Myers man is dead after his golf cart struck a propane tanker on Winkler Road in Fort Myers.

The golf cart was reportedly traveling southbound on Winkler Rd, approaching Clipper Ln prior to the crash.

The propane tanker, being driven by a 43-year-old Cape Coral man, was traveling north on Winkler Rd, ahead of the golf cart.

The golf cart traveled off the roadway, overcorrected, and entered the northbound lane of Winkler Rd in the direct path of the propane tanker.

The propane tanker then crashed head-on with the golf cart, killing the 44-year-old driver.

The 30-year-old passenger of the golf cart and driver of the propane tanker both sustained minor injuries.

FHP states that both occupants of the golf cart were not wearing seatbelts.

The crash is still under investigation.

Lee County, FL — One person has died and another has been injured after a Balgas propane truck struck a golf cart on Winkler Road just north of Harbour Club Road in Fort Myers.

Iona McGregor Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the incident at 10:41 AM Saturday morning.

One person sustained significant head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person was transported with minor injuries to Gulf Coast Medical Center.

All lanes of Winkler Rd are shut down between Harbour Club Rd and Indiana Ave.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
