Charlotte County, FL — Two people have died and five others have been injured, two critically, after a home caught fire at 157 Barre Drive NW in Port Charlotte.
Charlotte County Fire & EMS crews responded to the incident at 11:23 PM Tuesday night.
Charlotte County Fire confirms that one victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a second victim, who was transported to an area hospital in "Traumatic Cardiac Arrest", died at the hospital.
Three more people sustained serious injuries meeting "Trauma Alert" criteria and were transported to HCA Blake Hospital in Bradenton by AeroMed, LeeFlight, and BayFlite helicopters.
Two other victims sustained minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals in stable condition.
Firefighters have not yet confirmed how many occupants were in the home at the time of the fire and Peace River Search & Rescue K9 dogs continue to search for additional victims.
Charlotte County Fire also confirmed that there were animals in the home and that two dogs and a cat also died in the fire.
The home is a total loss and The Red Cross has been contacted.
Barre Dr NW is completely shut down at this time.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
