Lee County, FL — Fire crews have been working to contain a leak from an ammonia tank at Reddy Ice for over four hours at 13320 Metro Parkway in Fort Myers.

South Trail Fire, Iona McGregor Fire, and Lee County EMS crews responded to the incident at 7:02 PM Saturday evening.

According to the STFD, the tank is at least 1,000 gallons in size and a strong odor of ammonia was first detected over 500 feet away at the Shrimp Shack.

Multiple units responded to the incident and it took over four hours to contain the leak.

Fire crews utilized a "hydraulic ventilation" technique, which uses a series of fans and water, to mitigate the leak.

No injuries were reported and representatives from Reddy Ice are coordinating with fire agencies to resume normal operations.
