Man learning to drive hits, kills father in parking lot accident in North Naples

The Florida Highway Patrol says a 34-year-old man from Colombia was behind the wheel when he struck his 65-year-old father, a Naples resident, as he was teaching him how to park a car in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Naples.

The man driving was attempting to forward park in a parking space as his father guided him from outside the vehicle. The man then stepped on the accelerator, causing the vehicle to drive over the parking curbs before hitting his father standing on the other side of the curbs.

He was transported to Lee Memorial in critical condition.

Troopers have just informed us the man hit by the vehicle has died from his injuries.

The driver has been charged with no drivers license resulting in serious injury, which is a felony.

Collier County, FL — A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Naples at 3000 Orange Blossom Drive in North Naples.

North Collier Fire and Collier County EMS crews responded to the incident at 8:03 PM Monday evening.

The pedestrian has been transported as a “Trauma Alert” by MedFlight to Lee Memorial.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies say the Florida Highway Patrol is being called to investigate.
