Collier County, FL — A woman has died and two other people have been injured after a crash at Airport Road S and Estey Avenue in Naples.
Greater Naples Fire and Collier County EMS crews responded to the incident at 1:45 PM Tuesday afternoon.
Troopers say a red Honda Civic was in the southbound left turn lane on Airport Rd S to turn onto Estey Ave.
At the same time, a white pickup truck was traveling northbound on Airport Rd S, approaching the intersection with Estey Ave.
The 17-year-old female driver of the red Honda Civic, who only has a learners permit, proceeded to make an unprotected turn into the intersection in the direct path of the pickup truck, causing the crash.
Post-collision, the red Honda Civic struck a stopped vehicle that was in the westbound lane of Estey Ave to cross Airport Rd S.
A 41-year-old female who was in the front passenger seat of the red Honda Civic at the time of the crash was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda Civic and driver/sole occupant of the white pickup truck were both transported to area hospitals with injuries.
The driver and sole occupant of the third vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
Several cases of alcohol that were in the bed of the pickup truck could be seen scattered across the sidewalk north of Estey Ave, and troopers say the driver had an odor of alcohol on him.
This observation by troopers at the scene does not automatically indicate he was operating a motor vehicle with a BAC above the legal limit.
One northbound lane of Airport Rd S is blocked at this time.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
