9:50 AM — The Florida Highway Patrol confirms a 14-year-old boy has died after he ran a stop sign and was struck by an SUV at Lakeland Avenue and Madison Drive Saturday afternoon in North Naples.

Troopers say the teen was riding an electric bicycle east on Madison Drive approaching a posted stop sign at the intersection of Lakeland Avenue.

The teen failed to stop at the sign and entered the direct path of an SUV, driven by a 45-year-old man of Naples, that was heading south on Lakeland Avenue.

The SUV did not have a stop sign.

The front of the SUV collided with the electric bicycle and the teen, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, sustained critical injuries.

He was transported to NCH North Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
