Lee County, FL — Crews have extinguished the flames after a half-acre brush fire broke out in the wooded area at 19651 S Tamiami Trail, directly south of the Sun Retreats Estero Bay RV Park in San Carlos Park.

San Carlos Park Fire and Estero Fire crews responded to the incident at 8:08 PM Thursday night.

The Florida Forestry Service also responded to the scene and provided two dozers to aid firefighters with containment efforts.

Crews had to utilize special trucks to make access to the wooded area and attacked the fire from four different angles in order to contain the half-acre flames that engulfed the brush.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown but residents in the area say it may have originated in a homeless camp after several people attempted to start a fire to keep warm.
