Lee County, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol confirms one person has died after an SUV rear-ended and drove underneath a semi-truck that was stopped on the shoulder at the 118 mile marker of I-75 SB in Bonita Springs.

Bonita Springs Fire, Estero Fire Rescue and Lee County EMS crews responded to the incident at 12:56 AM Tuesday morning.

Troopers confirm a 33-year-old Fort Myers man was the driver and sole occupant of the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say the SUV was traveling south on I-75 in the outside lane when it failed to negotiate a curve in the road and entered the outside paved shoulder before colliding with rear of the semi-truck.

The driver and passenger inside the semi-truck were not injured.

Southbound lanes of I-75 are partially blocked.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
