Man dies in deliberate house fire on SW 6th Ave in Cape Coral

2:45 PM — The Cape Coral Fire Department confirms a man and a cat have died in a deliberately ignited house fire in southwest Cape Coral.

Crews responded to the home just before 4:00 AM Thursday morning and say it took them 15 minutes to knock down the fire.

A 60 to 70 year old male that was rescued from the home with critical burns was pronounced dead at Cape Coral Hospital.

An arson investigation involving the CCFD, CCPD and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is underway.

Lee County, FL — A man has sustained critical burns after a home caught fire at 912 SW 6th Avenue in Cape Coral.

Cape Coral Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the incident at 3:55 AM Thursday morning.

Witnesses stated that a car inside of the home's garage may have exploded, causing the fire to erupt.

A neighbor told 911 operators that the resident of the home was a disabled war veteran.

An approximately 60 to 70 year old man was located inside of the home and rescued by firefighters.

The victim was transported to Cape Coral Hospital in cardiac arrest.

No other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
