Lee County, FL — One person is in custody after stealing a work van and crashing it into the Smash Fitness at 9110 Bonita Beach Road SE in Bonita Springs.
Bonita Springs Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the crash at 11:36 PM Tuesday night.
LCSO confirmed that deputies responded to a report of a vehicle theft at the Holiday Inn Express at 27891 Crown Lake Blvd prior to the crash.
The suspect, who stole a van, drove to the Sunshine Plaza across the street before crashing into the front of the Smash Fitness.
The suspect then fled deputies on foot and a brief pursuit ensued.
A K9 dog was deployed and the suspect was apprehended in front of the Skillets.
LCSO says the suspect is in custody and being treated for injuries related to the K9 bite.
No other injuries were reported.
The identity of the suspect or the charges they are facing have not yet been released.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
